The Wandering Knight and the Cursed Village

In the year 1327, Sir Aldric, a wandering knight, rode through the misty forests of the North. He had no lord, no castle—only his sword and his code of honor. One evening, as the sun bled into the horizon, he came upon a village shrouded in eerie silence.

The place was called Eldermere, yet it felt abandoned. No children laughed in the streets, no merchants called out their wares. Only the crows, perched upon the thatched rooftops, watched him with black, unblinking eyes.

An old woman, the only soul brave enough to approach, whispered, “Leave, knight, before the curse takes you too.”

Intrigued, Aldric pressed for answers. The woman spoke of a dark legend—how a jealous sorcerer, spurned by the village’s healer, had cursed Eldermere. Each night, a monstrous shadow emerged from the woods, stealing away one villager, never to be seen again.

That night, Aldric stood guard in the village square. When the moon reached its peak, a dense fog slithered from the forest, bringing with it an unnatural cold. Then, from the darkness, a towering figure emerged—a creature with hollow eyes and elongated limbs. It reached for a young girl cowering behind a cart.

With a roar, Aldric charged. His sword met the beast’s claws in a clash of steel and darkness. Though swift, the creature was not invincible. As Aldric fought, he recalled the old woman’s words: “The curse is bound to his heart.”

Ducking beneath the beast’s strike, Aldric plunged his sword deep into its chest. A ghastly howl split the air, and the shadow crumbled into the wind. With its demise, the fog lifted, and the village breathed once more.

By dawn, the villagers gathered, hope rekindled in their weary eyes. The old woman placed a hand on Aldric’s shoulder and murmured, “Eldermere will never forget.”

But as the knight mounted his steed, he knew his journey was not over. There were always more shadows to face, and honor demanded he meet them head-on.
